Cal State L.A. Experts Available to Speak on Corporate Mismanagement and the Economy The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved a bill that would impose sweeping reforms on the accounting industry and corporate managementÂmeasures aimed at restoring faith in the beleaguered business community. Cal State L.A. has experts who can discuss the nationÂs economy, legal aspects of business transactions, financial auditing, as well as business ethics and corporate social responsibility. Maria S. Boss Professor of Finance and Law; J.D., University of California Hastings College of Law; admitted to the California State Bar, Federal District Court and U.S. Supreme Court Dr. Boss is a specialist in the legal aspects of business transactions and business organizations. She is a former deputy city attorney and corporate counsel. She has published articles in 12 professional journals and presented papers to more than 28 organizations with topics ranging from corporate raiders, inside trading, termination and wrongful discharge. Rick Hayes Professor of Accounting; Ph.D., London School of Economics Dr. Hayes specializes in international auditing (which includes knowledge of IFAC international standards), artificial intelligence applications (especially expert systems in accounting), and interview techniques (involving focus groups, protocol analysis and retrospective interviews). Dr. Hayes has authored several books on accounting and articles regarding financial accounting and education. He is a certified public accountant. John F. Steiner Professor of Management; Ph.D., University of Arizona Dr. Steiner studies business ethics and corporate social responsibility. He is the co-author of a comprehensive textbook, Business, Government, and Society: A Managerial Perspective (9th ed., 2000), and several other books on the business-society relationship. His research and writing focus on how changes in society affect the managerÂs job and include case studies of corporations that have been conspicuously responsible or irresponsible in business. Dr. Steiner is a former member of the Advisory Board for the Edmund G. ÂPat Brown Institute of Public Affairs at Cal State L.A. Dang T. Tran Professor of Economics; Ph.D., Syracuse University Dr. TranÂs field of expertise includes macro and microeconomics, money and banking, business statistics, economic forecasting, development and planning, international trade and public finance. Dr. Tran has presented numerous papers at international conferences. He has also served as a consultant for the Regional Plan Association regarding methodologies for selection of target industries and adoption of economic development strategies for the New York Urban Region. A Cal State L.A. grant allowed him to build an econometric forecasting model for Los Angeles County. He holds membership in the American Economic Association among others.
