NIS Account

A Network Information Services (NIS) Account provides access to the Instructional Support Information System (ISIS), Scholar's Mail, and the Internet. An NIS Account consists of a "userid" that identifies you when you log on, and a "password" that authorizes access to ISIS. The userid is linked to a personal storage area called a Home Directory or h:\drive., 10 MB of disk space that is automatically mounted on any ISIS server when you log in. NIS is a collection of UNIX system software programs that allow all of the large primary computers in the network (servers) to be "viewed" as one system by users at their workstations.
