Message from the Dean

Message from Dean Emily Allen:

Dr. Emily Allen, Dean, College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (ECST) at Cal State LA

Welcome to the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology at Cal State L.A.!  Our College embodies the principle that all of us, students, faculty and staff, will Commit to Excellence and Engage with Community. We encourage students to work together and to seek out and utilize all the resources on campus, and faculty and staff to work together to implement the most effective practices for student learning. Faculty and students together conduct the advanced research needed to turn the world’s dreams into reality. We reach for excellence in everything we do.

ECST has strong ties to Southern California employers who provide scholarships, internships and sponsored senior design projects. Our Dean’s Advisory Board brings in industry and community executives to help keep us abreast of trends and ideas in the local economy and more globally. Our partners help ensure that the education we provide  is the education students need to build the future.  Our alumni occupy important positions all over Southern California and beyond, and we welcome their involvement back on campus.

Whether you’re a prospective student thinking about attending ECST, or a new  student exploring our College, feel free to contact us to find out more about our degree programs, our student success center activities, and  opportunities for student involvement in the College.

ECST has a long tradition of developing alternative transportation infrastructure, managing the CSULA hydrogen fueling station, and participating in the Department of Energy-sponsored EcoCar3 competition as one of only 15 invited schools in the nation. Our 1995 winning car Solar Eagle III, along with the Supermileage vehicle, put CSULA on the map as a place students come to help develop LA’s future transportation solutions. Every year our students participate in the concrete canoe team, steel bridge, and GeoWall competitions, showing the world its engineering future.

ECST has developed seven commitments to guide our strategic decision-making:

I welcome you to learn more about us, and to meeting you here at ECST!
