ECST Makerspace

Design Space

Wecome to the Makerspace website!

The Makerspace recently received a $325,000 grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation. Check out the recent news! Cal State LA News Manufacturing tomorrow

The Makerspace was built to provide students at Cal State LA a place to get trained and be able to build things. It was designed and built with many hours of hard work by students. The Makerspace is located in Engineering and Technology B-111 and has space and basic hand tools for all students to be able to design and build. Students may consult the staff to get parts cut by laser or waterjet. 3D printing will be coming soon. There are also open-use hours in the machine shop for students who have completed the training and safety for using machine tools.

To access the design space with hand tools you will need to review the Makerspace rules and sign a training form the first time you come.

To access the machine shop there are two routes. The first is to bring in your project between 6-8 pm on Monday-Thursday and receive supervised instruction. The second is for those who have already taken TECH 1600, ME 1140, ME 2030, or have taken a comparable course or have comparable experience. Those students can come to the Makerspace on Wednesdays at 5 pm and receive a safety refresher and sign the training forms, and they will then have access to the open-use hours.
