BACKGROUND: This program is part of a strategic language initiative that is designed to provide selected students with the opportunity to study Korean language and culture over a period of thirteen months, and will include subsidized study abroad in South Korea in Summer 2009.
THE 2008 SUMMER PROGRAM: Six-week, non-residential, and semi-immersion program in Korean (12 units); scholarship (in-state undergraduate tuition and fees) and financial incentives (textbooks, lunches, and fees for parking, OPI testing and excursions) provided.
LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION: Intermediate
CONTENT OF INSTRUCTION: Three courses (speaking/listening; reading/writing; culture) a day with two Lab sessions and a Language Table (during lunch)
Monday through Thursday (9:50 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.); an excursion on Friday (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.).
LOCATION: California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA)
DURATION: June 23, 2008 August 1, 2008
ELIGIBILITY: Must be a heritage or non-heritage non-native speaker. There will be a screening test before selecting the participants, who will be expected to achieve Intermediate fluency level at the end of the Summer program. Priority is given to current CSU students followed by those from California community colleges and Universities of California.
